About Us
P.S. 62 is a diverse elementary school located in the South Bronx, Community School District 8 . P.S. 62 is a safe and nurturing learning environment educating over 450 students from 3K- 5th grade. Our population is comprised of 81% Latinx and 19% Black. 30% of our students have IEP's, and our ELL population is 13%. On each grade level, we have an ICT and a self-contained special education class, in addition to a general education and an ELL class.
The 2024-2025 school year focused on strengthening Tier I instruction in math and raising students' literacy levels by providing professional development in the Science of Reading and Explicit Instruction. As a result of professional learning grounded in research, teachers were able to provide students with targeted instruction to close learning gaps.
Currently, we are a Community School and have developed a partnership with Aspira to engage students in a well-rounded academic experience, including a wide variety of sports teams, the arts, including music and theater, and an award-winning debate team. As a result of our efforts, our attendance has surpassed 91% in the top 10 of District 8, out of 37 schools.
We survey our school community to gauge the needs and interests of students, staff, and families. We use this information to create a tailored experience for our school community so that students, staff, and families feel safe, valued and have access to resources needed all while keeping joy in the forefront. We continue to work in partnership with our families, valuing their participation in their child’s education.
